A MiG-29 fighter crashes near Alma-Ata; a pilot reported dead

Today, on February 12, at 11:17 a.m. local time, a MiG-29 fighter crashed near Zhetigen, a village not far from Alma-Ata, killing one of the pilots, a REGNUM correspondent is told at the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, the fighter belonging to the 106th Guards Airbase of the Kazakh Air Forces was conducting a training flight and fell down during the landing approach. Both pilots catapulted at the height of 150 m, meanwhile, one of them, the squadron staff commander Major Alexander Kovyazin failed to survive. The other pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Vitaly Dilmukhamedov survived, but his is in poor condition.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the deceased pilot had had 237 flying hours, the commander 890 hours. The village of Zhetigen is located on the southern bank of the resort basin Kapchagay.
