Churkin reminds UN Security Council of Kosovo and IraqThe UN Security Council refused to grant representatives of Abkhazia and South Ossetia a right to participate in a Council's session on the situation in these republics. The session thus brought no results. The conflicting sides exchanged mutual accusations, signing no documents. US, Great Britain's, and Georgian diplomats accused Russia of trying to alter Georgia's borders by recognizing independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russia's envoy to UN Vitaly Churkin called the accusations ungrounded, since Washington and many European countries have recognized independence of Kosovo. He also reminded the crowd of the situation in Iraq and asked the US envoy if weapons of mass destruction were ever found in the country. 13:23 08/29/2008 COMMENT ON THIS NEWS !
