Crimean Tatar Mejlis denounces picketing nationalists
Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People has made a statement about its having no affiliation with deployment of protest tent camp in front of the Supreme Council of Crimea on March 11. Mejlis's presidium discussed the situation on March 11, when the first protest tents were being set up. Like most unsanctioned land seizures, the rally was organized by one of the Crimean Tatars leaders Daniil Ametov. Mejlis's presidium has denounced the unsanctioned acts and statements. Presidium members have decided to issue a special statement about the situation and to find a way to solve problems of allotting Crimean Tatars with residential lots.
As is was reported earlier, Crimean Tatars started on March 12 an unlimited protest action before the Crimean Supreme Council building, demanding that they recieve land and property they had been deprived of in 1954. They had set up a tent camp before starting the rally. Over 1,000 people have attended it. The protesters claim that local Crimean authorities ignore decrees of president Victor Yushchenko and government acts.
