EU decision premature and unacceptable: Iranian FM

Ministry of foreign affairs of Iran has called
statement of the European Union who has criticized parliamentary
election in IRI in which conservatives received the majority of votes
“premature, politically grounded and unacceptable.” The Majles
(parliament) election in Iran was approved by the overwhelming
majority of the Iranian people, it was held in a fair and peaceful
setting and was widely covered in foreign media, Iranian foreign
ministry's spokesman Mohammed Ali Hosseini is quoted by PressTV to state.
EU officials are positive that Iranian parliamentary
election did not conform to international standards and labeled it as
“unfair and uncompetitive.”
In the 8th Majles election that were held
on March 14, Iranian ruling party was the winner. Conservatives
received 120 seats in a 290-seat parliament. Their rivals reformists
received 46 mandates. Four mandates were won by independent
candidates. 30 more parliamentarians will be chosen in the election
second round.
On March 16, activists upset with the official
results spurred riots. Police had to use tear gas against the
demonstrators.
