Foreign trade turnover of Kirov Region increased by 24.2% in 2007

Foreign trade turnover of Kirov Region totaled $880.8 mn in 2007, showing increase by 24.2% comparing to 2006, REGNUM is told at the foreign and regional ties department of the regional government.
The positive foreign trade balance was $655.6 mn and increased by 18% comparing to 2006. The increase of the trade turnover, they say at the department, was caused by growing amounts of exports both in far abroad as well as in CIS countries and by significant growth of imports of goods from far abroad countries.
Traditionally, far abroad countries took the largest amount of the regional foreign trade turnover in 2007; their share was 85%. Key foreign trade partners of the region in 2007 were Italy, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Egypt, Great Britain, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. The exports in 2007 totaled $768.2 mn showing a 21.5-percent growth comparing to 2006.
The goods exports traditionally were dominated by production of major plants in the region, including petrochemicals (50% of the total amount of export), timber (25%) as well as ferrous and non-ferrous metals (13%).
Kirov Region imports totaled $112.6 mn in 2007 and rose by 46.4% within a year.
