Former town of Khalturin can become a tourist center (Kirov Region)
Kirov Region government is considering the old Vyatka town of Orlov as a potential tourist site. As senior adviser of the Department for Foreign and Interregional Affairs at Kirov Region government, Irina Teterina told REGNUM, an information tour was held to the town.
As participants of the information tour noted, potential of Orlov District allows developing culture and educational, agriculture, hunting, fishing and other types of tourism. The program for social and economic development of Orlov District in 2007-2011 includes actions to develop tourism.
Orlov is an old Vyatka town having the status of a historical settlement (overall, there are 12 such settlements in the territory of Kirov Region). In 2009, the town will mark its 550th anniversary. A merchant town, it was one of trade centers in the land of Vyatka. From 1923, the town was named Khalturin, after Stepan Khalturin, a worker and a revolutionary, organizer of the Northern Union of Russian Workers. In 1992, the town got back its historical name.
A unique plant manufacturing chess made of local birch, checkers, backgammon, wooden masseurs, souvenirs is located in Orlov. Recreation centers and health resorts are located not far from Orlov.
