Georgian police keeps blockade of Znaur region of South Ossetia, head of Znaur regional administration Zaur Tskhovrebov told REGNUM correspondent. In his words, “from early March, motor traffic following from Tskhinval to Ossetian villages is being checked at a police post in Avnevi village that from the start of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict has been controlled by Georgia's power agencies.” <!-- @page { size: 21cm 29.7cm; margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } -->

“During these checks, people are made subject to derogatory and illegal search. They are deprived of all produce and industrial goods. Head of Avnevi department of Georgian police Datashvili personally participates in the actions. Passengers are prohibited to bring to Ossetian villages more than one kilogram of food.” <!-- @page { size: 21cm 29.7cm; margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } -->

“This ban applies even to ethnic Georgians living in the Mugut and Didmukha settlements. Peacekeepers' post that is located nearby does not interfere in the illegal action of the police,” Tskhovrebov noted. <!-- @page { size: 21cm 29.7cm; margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } -->

According to his information, Georgian police officers attempt by their action to force the population of Ossetian villages to accept Georgia's citizenship. “While searching a car of one of Znaur residents, head of Avnevi police department Datashvili claimed that they were not going to any longer allow food to be brought to our villages,” Tskhovrebov informed. <!-- @page { size: 21cm 29.7cm; margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } -->

He stated that “as a result of this abuse of power, villages Mugut and Didmukha located on the border of South Ossetia and Georgia and populated by about 400 people found themselves totally isolated from South Ossetia's mainland, and their population critically needs food. The situation is not going to improve soon, for the only road to the villages lies through the Avnevi village,” administration head observed.
