Chair of the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) Levan Tarkhnishvili announced preliminary outcomes of the January 5 presidential election at a briefing today. He said, judging by the outcomes, no run-off would be needed, a REGNUM correspondent informs.

According to the information of the CEC received from 3,482 polling stations, presidential contender from the ruling party Mikhail Saakashvili won 52.91% of th e votes. 25.26% voted for candidate from the united opposition Levan Gachechiladze; Arkady (Badri) Patarkatsishvili received 6.99%, leader of the New Rights Party David Gamkrelidze – 4.02%, leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili – 6.42%, leader of the Party of the Future Giorgi Maisashvili – 0.76%, leader of Imedi Party Irina Sarishvili - 0,19%.

According to Levan Tarkhnishvili, data from 30 polling stations are left to be counted by the CEC and data in a number of some additional lists, however, the “basic outline of the election will not change, most probably.” At the same time, Levan Tarkhnishvili noted that the CEC is now considering claims; probably, part of them will be treated in court, so the final outcomes will be announced by January 13.

The chair of the commission stressed that the voting took place at all polling stations, apart from Shatili, because of bad weather conditions. He noted that the outcomes announced by him does not include data from polling station #1 in Saburtalo District as well as a polling station in Mesti, as they were abrogated, because chairs of the election commissions had taken the ballots with them to their homes. “Materials on both facts have been submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office, and those to blame will be punished,” said Levan Tarkhnishvili.
