Kirov Region enlisted as environmentally safe regions

Kirov Region is listed among environmentally safe regions of Russia, REGNUM is told at the regional environment and natural resources management department.
According to the department, an environmental ratings prepared by the Green Patrol organization, includes Kirov Region into the group of nine “relatively safe” in terms of the environmental situation regions of Russia, which shows the high quality of the environmental policy pursued by the regional government.
The ratings lists regions under 15 criteria, drawing general conclusions in three major fields – ecosphere, technosphere and society.
As they say at the department, annual Days to Protect from Environmental Threat played their role in making the region a part of the list of regions with positive environmental developments. The Days started on April 15 and will complete on June 5, on the World Environment Day. The regional committee for organizing the Days is led by deputy head of the regi0onal government Nikolai Gorokhov. Within frameworks of the action, practical environment protection measures are undertaken, including mass inspections of companies concerning their observance of the environmental legislation, raids to clear off banks of water basins, planting trees in cities and villages and so on.
According to the information of the department, 15 regional conferences, contests, and exhibitions are planned to be held in 2008.
