Opinion: The government is trying to split the Ukrainians by raising religious issuesThe most frightful confrontation between people can be based on nothing but religious issues, said Ukrainian MP Mikhail Chechetov (Regions Party) commenting to a REGNUM correspondent in Kiev on President Viktor Yushchenko’s statements of his support of the idea to establish the United Local Church in Ukraine. According to Chechetov, common people cannot provoke a confrontation caused by religion. Only politicians can do it therefore I would taboo and ban officials of any rank from interfering into religion problems. People will make up their minds on their own. Let the politicians divide, unite, disunite, but the government must in no way assume responsibility for the problems of confessional integration or disintegration, the politician said. He noted that the authorities are trying to split the Ukrainians more and more. Our politicians are trying to do their best to set off the east against the west of Ukraine in mentality and culture. We absolutely don’t need a split in the country on the religious basis, Mikhail Chechetov summarized. 11:10 02/04/2008 COMMENT ON THIS NEWS ! (please, do not use "http://") |
