Members of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada, who were granted ministers’ posts yesterday, did not attend today’s session of the parliament, so the orange coalition consisting of Yulia Timoshenko’s Bloc and Our Ukraine – People’s Defense Bloc turned out to be ineffective because of absence of the number of votes needed for passing decisions. The announcement was made to a REGNUM correspondent today on the sidelines of the parliamentary session by Ukrainian former Justice Minister, Member of Regions Party Alexander Lavrinovich.
He also said that all those that went to work at the government still remain MPs, because to relieve them of their mandate the parliament needs to vote. Now that there are no 226 members of the coalition, they cannot vote for resignation of those MPs who became members of the Cabinet, so they cannot let members next in their party lists obtain parliamentary mandates, the politician said. The member of the Regions Party noted that now 14 members of the parliamentary coalition, who were appointed ministers and did not attend the session of the Supreme Rada, are working against common sense.
Besides, according to Lavrinovich, applications on relieving the MPs of their mandates and appointing new MPs instead of them must come through the Regulations Committee that has not been established by the parliament yet.
