Closed borders in South Caucasus region are abnormality that results in escalating tension and negative political situation, believes EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby. He made the statement today during hearings at the Armenian parliament on prospects and problems of the Armenian-Turkish relations. As Semneby said, Europe is concerned with the current state of affairs.

A REGNUM correspondent quotes the European official as saying that to settle the issue, Armenia and Turkey need to be guided by the following principles: to recognize priority of the question of improving the relations, be ready to compromise and move on the way of solving current problems in “small pace.” Semneby also found it necessary to organize an Armenian-Turkish forum that would discuss all possible acute issues. He stressed that the European Union is interested in stability, security and normalization of the relations with all countries in the region.
