Regular rotation of Russian peacekeepers in Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone to be held in late May

A planned rotation of a battalion of the Russian peacekeepers from the Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone is scheduled to take place from May 27 to 31. The announcement was made by Commandant Assistant in charge for communications Captain Vladimir Ivanov. According to him, during the rotation, personnel will be replaced at ten observer posts and check-points.

The collective peacekeeping forces consist of three battalions (Russian, Georgian and North-Ossetian). They were deployed in South Ossetia on the basis of the Dagomys Treaty of 1992. Each battalion comprises 500 troops. Last time the Russian battalion was rotated in 2007, from May 21 to 25.
