Russian gas import to Armenia increased by 20% in 2007

In 2007, Armenia imported 2.054 bn cubic meters of natural gas, which is a 19.7-percent increase comparing to 2006. As REGNUM was told at the ArmRosgazprom press office, the amount of gas sold increased by 17.9% and was 1.869 bn cubic meters of gas. Consumption of the gas by the population was 523 mn cubic meters, which is a 32.5-percent increase comparing to 2006. Commercial consumption of the gas was about 406 mn cubic meters (a 17.5-percent increase). Gas consumption by energy companies slightly decreased and totaled 507 mn cubic meters. In 2007, gas consumption by state-financed companies rose by 29.6% and totaled 44 mn cubic meters.

It is worth mentioning, ArmRosgazprom has an exclusive right to deliver and distribute the Russian natural gas in Armenia’s domestic market. Gazprom is its main shareholder with 57.59% of shares, Armenia’s Energy Ministry has 34.7% in it and Itera 7.71%.
