Russian president signs law on privatization of residential real estate
President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev signed a federal law On amending Article 4 of the Russian Federation law “On privatization of housing funds in the Russian Federation”, passed by the State Duma on May 23, 2008 and approved by the Federation Council on May 30, 2008.
According to the press office of the Kremlin, the law excludes from Article 4 of the law “On privatization of housing funds in Russian Federation” the position under which the dwelling premises provided to citizens by social rent agreement after March, 1, 2005, cannot be subject of privatization.
The necessity of this amendment is conditioned by the fact that the mentioned provision of the law that prohibits privatization of dwelling premises, provided to citizens by social rent agreement on March 1, 2005, according to a resolution of the Constitutional Court of June 15, 2006 was pronounced contradicting to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
