Russian statistical agency: 13.1 mn square meters of housing put into operation in Russia in January-April

In Russia, during January-April 2008, 13.1 million sq. m. of apartments were put into operation, which is by 6.6% more than for the similar period of 2007, reports the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) cited by the M2 agency.
In April, 2.95 million sq. m. of apartments were taken into operation, which is by 2.5% more than for the similar period of 2007, but by 32.6% less than this March.
According to the Rosstat, during the first four months of this year 140,600 new apartments were built in Russia, including 30,300 apartments in April.
The amount of works, implemented under the Construction activity made 315.3 billion rubles in April or 121.8% comparing to the level of the same period of the previous year. In January-April, it was 1020.7 billion rubles, or 126.7%.
Last year in Russia, 60.4 millions sq. m. of housing were taken into operation within the framework of the Affordable Housing national project, which is by 19.4% more than in 2006. By 2010, it is planned to increase the volumes of housing construction to 80 million sq. m. in a year. At the same time, Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin stressed the necessity to bring the volumes of housing construction in the country by 2012 to 130-140 million sq. m. in a year.
