Nov 29 2007, an opinion column was published in the Tiraspol’s Pridnestrovie (Transdnestr) newspaper containing critical notions of the role of the Russian Federation in the Moldovan-Transdnestr conflict settlement. REGNUM publishes a statement of the state advisor to the president of the Republic of South Ossetia Konstantin Kochiev.

“The article was written on behalf of the information center of the Interparliamentary Assembly for Democracy and Peoples’ Rights, which is itself surprising, for the South Ossetian party to the Assembly was not informed of the publication project. Neither was the Abkhazian party to the Assembly notified about it. No doubt that each party to the Assembly has a right to make their own public assessments of foreign policy and diplomacy of any state; however, I would like to note that not earlier than in November 2007, presidents of the three republics – members of the Intergovernmental Assembly for Democracy and Peoples’ Rights — in their common statement following the Assembly’s summit in Sukhumi, highly regarded Russia’s efforts in settling conflicts.”

“I think that all the Assembly parties have, at least, to take into account the common standpoint reflected in the document signed by the heads of states,” Mr. Kochiev says in the statement.
