Yulia Timoshenko’s Bloc: The signing of decree dissolving the parliament does not mean early elections (Ukraine)
Early elections in Ukraine can be held only in the case of a parliamentary decision on its funding and appropriate amendments to the electoral legislation. According to a REGNUM correspondent this statement was announced today, October 9, by the People's Deputy of Ukraine, Member of Yulia Timoshenko’s Bloc Ostap Semerak. The signing of the decree to hold early elections does not mean that they will be held. Last year the president issued four such decrees and only the last one made it possible to hold elections. If there is no consensus on re-elections between MPs, it wouldn't take place, Semerak said. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko dissolved the Supreme Rada the day before, after it failed to form a new majority after the collapse of the orange alliance in September, and announced early elections. Under the Ukrainian Constitution, I declare termination of the powers of the Supreme Rada of the 6th convocation and call for early parliamentary elections, the president said in his address to the nation on national broadcasting channels. New elections will be presumably held on December 7. 09:17 10/09/2008 COMMENT ON THIS NEWS ! (please, do not use "http://") |
